Past Continuous em 1 minuto

O past continuous conta o que estava acontecendo em um momento do passado. É o nosso "estava fazendo": I was watching TV, eu estava vendo TV.

Atenção

  • Was com I, he, she e it. Were com you, we e they.
  • Junto com o simple past, o past continuous é a ação longa que foi interrompida: I was watching TV when the lights went out.
  • While vem com a ação longa: While I was walking, I tripped on a chair.
  • Verbos de estado (know, like, want) quase nunca levam -ing: I wanted some light, e não I was wanting some light.

Erros comuns de brasileiro

  • Errado:I was watch TV.

    Certo:I was watching TV.

    Depois de was ou were, o verbo leva -ing.

  • Errado:They was sleeping.

    Certo:They were sleeping.

    Com you, we e they, o passado de to be é were.

  • Errado:When the lights went out, I watched TV.

    Certo:When the lights went out, I was watching TV.

    Com o simple past parece que a pessoa começou a ver TV depois que a luz acabou. O que já estava acontecendo vai no past continuous.

  • Errado:I was knowing the answer.

    Certo:I knew the answer.

    Know, like e want quase nunca vão para o -ing.

One night, the lights went out in my house. I was watching TV when it happened. The room was dark and quiet. I was feeling scared and confused. I called my friend, but she was not home. I was thinking about what to do next. Then, I heard a noise outside. I was wondering if someone was there. I decided to go to the kitchen. While I was walking, I tripped on a chair. I was very careful after that. I found a flashlight in a drawer. I was happy to have some light again. I was looking for my phone to call for help. Suddenly, the lights came back on. I was surprised and relieved. I thought about how important light is. After that night, I bought candles. Now, I always keep them in my house. I learned to be ready for anything. That night was scary, but I was safe.

  • Desenhe no quadro uma linha do tempo: uma faixa longa para a ação em andamento e um risco curto para a interrupção.
