Atenção

  • Com o que não se conta (light, water, money), o verbo fica no singular: There is a lot of light.
  • Em uma lista, o verbo concorda com o primeiro item: There is a sofa, a table and four chairs.
  • Para perguntar a quantidade: How many bedrooms are there?
  • Na resposta curta afirmativa não se contrai: Yes, there is. Nunca Yes, there's.

    O "tem" de existir vira there is. Have é ter no sentido de possuir: I have a car.

    Depois de there vem o verbo to be (is ou are), nunca have.

Posso usar have no lugar de there is?

Não para dizer que algo existe em um lugar. Have é possuir: I have a car. Para "tem um carro na garagem", o certo é There is a car in the garage.
